Obituary of Lora Nell Summers

On Friday, June 6, 2014, Lora Nell Bass Summers died suddenly at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. She was 87 years old. Lora was born April 12, 1927 in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was a longtime resident of Springfield, Va since 1963. She received her BS and MA from Oklahoma State University. She was also a dedicated Drama and English teacher, who influenced many students to love theater and literature, at Annandale High School 1963- 1986. She had a number of students who have pursued professional acting careers. Lora was an active member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church where she utilized her talents as a drama teacher to enhance worship. She was also active in the United Methodist Women , having served in a variety of leadership roles. Volunteered at the Bailey’s Crossroads Shelter She is survived by her daughters Deanna Manion and Nelda Richards (Dana), her grandchildren Meredith Richards, Colin Richards, Garrett Manion, Trevor Manion. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 am at St. Stephens United Methodist Church (www.ststephensfairfax.org) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Stephens United Methodist Church.
