Obituary of James G. Karickhoff
James Glen Karickhoff, 89, passed peacefully at home in Falls Church on April 24, 2024. He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Cacynthia R. Karickhoff, and his five children: Jamezetta Bedford (Edward), Carl Karickhoff (Marie), Brenda Karickhoff, Owen Karickhoff, and Kendra Sullivan (James). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: James Bedford (Lindsay) and their children Bryce and Eliza, Shannon Bedford, Kevin Bedford (Jonelle), Catherine Karickhoff, Patrick Karickhoff, Cole Karickhoff, Alan Karickhoff (Keri), Heather Karickhoff, Kyle Sullivan, Andrew Sullivan and Scott Sullivan.
Born on 9 July 1934 in Zona, WV, Jim served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant, and worked for more than 20 years as an information technology specialist at several agencies of the U.S. Treasury Department, ending with his retirement from the U.S. Secret Service.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was the first to offer to calm any and all fussy babies and toddlers. He volunteered with Boy Scouts and enjoyed many campouts. He spent several years as a little league umpire and many hours driving his kids to their various activities.
Jim enjoyed listening to the Stained Glass Bluegrass radio show on Sunday mornings, watching the Orioles and Nationals and following NASCAR. He spent many hours over 50 years gardening at Lewinsville Park and had a well-worn library card at the Mary Riley Styles Library.
