Obituary of Daphne Leatrice Grimes

In Loving Memory of Daphne Leatrice Grimes,

Daphne Leatrice Grimes, known affectionately as Mitzi, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born in Beaver Falls, PA to Lloyd and Julia Javens on January 13, 1933. During her youth, Daphne enjoyed roller skating and would later meet her husband, Benjamin Grimes on a blind date at the local roller rink.

Eventually, the Grimes family settled in Falls Church, VA with their 4 daughters. Mitzi's life was a testament to love and grace. She was a woman of deep principles, whose values of kindness, generosity, and humor touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mitzi loved her family and the many friends she made over her lifetime. She was an avid reader and loved animals, bringing home countless cats & dogs over the years. She found joy in shopping for treasures at thrift shops and yard sales. She was committed to her faith and made frequent calls to the prayer hotline for those she knew in need.

Mitzi is survived by her younger sister, Cheri Bohon; four daughters: Georgia Maiatico (Rick), Nancy Freer (Al), Kimberlee House (Pete) and Lori Hooper (Mark);seven grandchildren: Juli, Jim, Javen, Collin, Barrik, Blake, and Bailey; and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Grimes; her brother Lloyd (Buddy) Javens; her great-grandson, Logan Maitico; and many beloved friends.

While we mourn the loss of her physical presence, we celebrate the enduring impact her gentle spirit had on our lives. We find comfort in knowing that she has gone home to the Lord, surely reunited with her husband in Heaven. Mitzi will be laid to rest next to her late husband of 59 years, Benjamin Grimes, in National Memorial Cemetery in Falls Church, VA. Whether you knew her as Mom, Mitzi, Grandma, Nana, Ma, or Old Grandma, please know she loved you all!
