Weizero Martha Asfaw 'Batiye'

We gather here today to celebrate the life of Weizero Martha Asfaw, our beloved Batiye, who graced this world for 95 years. Batiye was born in Addis Ababa, on November 21, 1928, to Ato Asfaw Kidanewold and Weizero Salome Gebre-Statios. her journey through life was marked by love, faith, and an unwavering commitment to family.

 

Batiye attended Princess Zenebework's all-girls school and, at 18, married Ato Lakew Kiros. Together, they had six sons, raising them with unconditional love and guidance. Batiye also extended her love to nieces, nephews, and countless other children, earning her the reputation of a second mother to many.

 

In the late 1960s, Batiye joined the apostolic movement and became a founding member of the Ethiopian Apostolic Church, a testament to her unwavering faith. Her spiritual journey touched countless lives, leaving an enduring legacy of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We could say she was an incarnation of hope, faith and love.

 

In 1993, Batiye and Ato Lakew moved to the United States, and continued to provide love and guidance to their large family. Even after her husband's passing, Batiye remained the steadfast matriarch, holding her family together.

 

Batiye fulfilled her final wish to travel to Ethiopia to revisit her roots. A few days after her arrival, she fell ill and was hospitalized. Batiye passed away on September 24, 2023, in Addis Ababa surrounded by her loving family.

 

Weizero Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ato Lakew Kiros, her sisters Aster, Sophia, and Genet, her brothers Alemayehu, Yohannes and Teodros.  She is survived by six sons, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

We remember Weizero Martha Asfaw as a loving mother, a uniter and provider of guidance to her family, and as passionately devoted to her faith. Batiye will be deeply missed forever by those she touched. Today we celebrate her life, her faith, and the love she generously shared. Let us carry forward her spirit of love, compassion, and devotion, knowing that her legacy will continue to touch hearts for generations to come.

 

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

 

 

የወይዘሮ  ማርታ  አስፋው  'ባትዬ’

አጭር የሕይወት  ታሪክ

ለዘላለም ከስፍራው አይናወጥምና፤ ጻድቅ ሰው ሲታወስ ይኖራል። (መዝሙር 112:6)

ኢየሱስ የሆነውን ነገር በሰማ ጊዜ፣ ከነበረበት ተነሥቶ ወደ አንድ ገለልተኛ ስፍራ በጀልባ ሄደ። ሕዝቡም ይህን ሰምተው፣ ከየከተማው በእግር ተከተሉት። (ማቴዎስ 14:13)

ዛሬ እዚህ የተሰበሰብነው የእናታችንን የወይዘሮ ማርታ አሰፋውን ፥ የውዷ ባትዬን ፥ በፀጋ የተሞላ የ 95 ዓመታት ሕይወት ፍጻሜ ለማክበርና ለመሸኘት ነው።

ባትዬ  እ.ኢ.አ በ 1921 ዓ.ም. ከአቶ አሰፋው ኪዳነ ወልድና ከወ/ሮ ሰሎሜ ገ/ስታቲዎስ በአዲስ አበባ ከተማ ተወልደው የሕይወት ባለፀጋ ፥ የፍቅር ማህደር የቤተሰብ ምሰሶ ሆነው ኖረዋል።

እድሜያቸው ለትምህርት ሲደርስ በልዕልት ዘነበ ወርቅ ትምህርት ቤት ትምህርታቸውን ከተከታተሉ በኋላ በ18 ዓመታቸው ከአቶ ላቀው ኪሮስ ጋር ትዳር መሥርተው 6 ወንድ ልጆች ወልደው አሳድገዋል። በተጨማሪም  ለወንድሞቻቸውና  ለእህቶቻቸው ልጆችም ጭምር በማይነጥፍ ፍቅር እናት ነበሩ። ባትዬ  12  የልጅ-ልጅ  እና  9  የልጅ-ልጅ-ልጅ  አፍርተዋል።

እ.ኢ.አ በ1960 ዓ.ም. መጃመሪያ የኢትዮጵያ ሐዋርያት ቤተ ክርስቲያን መሥራች እናት ነበሩ። በእምነታቸው ፅናትና ለእግዚአብሔር ቃል በነበራቸው ጽኑ እምነት ለብዙዎች አርአያ ብቻ ሳይሆኑ መንፈሳዊ እናትም ነበሩ። የፍቅር ተምሳሌትና የእምነት ማህደር ነበሩ ቢባል አይበዛባቸውም።

በ1985 ዓ.ም ወ/ሮ ማርታ ከባለቤታቸው ከአቶ ላቀው ጋር ኑሮአቸውን በአሜሪካ መሥርተው የተለመደውን የቤተሰብ  ሰብሳቢነትና  አስተዋይ  መካሪነታቸውን  ቀጠሉ። ባለቤታቸው  ከዚህ  ዓለም  በሞት  ከተለይዋቸውም በኋላም  ለመላው  ቤተሰብ  ጽኑ ምሰሶ  ሆነው  ኖረዋል።

 

አገራቸውን  ለመጨረሻ  ጊዜ  ለማየትና  ለመሰናበት  በነበራቸው  ጽኑ  ጉጉት  በመስከረም 2 ቀን 2016  ዓ.ም. ወደ  አዲስ  አበባ  ተጉዘው  ፍላጎታቸውን  አሟልተዋል። ልባቸው  ቢደሰትም  በደረሰባቸውን  ሕመም  ምክንያት  በህክምና ሲረዱ ቆይተው በጥቂት ቀናት ውስጥ እ.ኢ.አ መስከረም 13 ቀን 2016 ዓ.ም. ከዚህ ዓለም  በሞት ተለዩን።

ከ 63 ዓመታት ባለቤታቸው ከአቶ ላቀው ፥ ከእህቶቻቸው ከወ/ሮ አስቴር ፥ ከወ/ሮ ሶፊያ ፥ ከወ/ሮ ገነት ፥ ከወንድሞቻቸው ከአቶ አለምአየሁ ፥ ከአቶ ዮሐንስና ፥ ከአቶ ቴዎድሮስ ጋር ለመቀላቀል ወደ ሰማያዊ ቤታቸው ሄደዋል፡፡
