Obituary of Mary Jane Stafford

Mary Jane Stafford passed away in her home on Saturday, June 10, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Rose Marie Yeropoli and James Vadala and a 1949 graduate of McKeesport, PA High School. In 1960 she moved to Arlington, VA and began her career with the Department of the Army, Chief of Information Office, Pentagon and later worked with several other Dept. of Defense organizations.  She retired in 1990 as the Director of Administration for the Defense Mapping Agency now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and received the agency’s Meritorious Civilian Service award for her outstanding accomplishments.

She spent many summers at the Delaware beaches and after retirement lived in Lewes Beach, DE for several years before returning to Arlington VA. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn R. Penn; granddaughters Christy M. Fraize, (Dave) and Adrienne M. Berry, (Roy); four great grandchildren; Ryan M. Moriarty, Sean P. Moriarty, Ashley N. Baldwin and Alexander C. Berry; 1 great great grandson Kaiden M. Moriarty; nephew Anthony Barbera and niece Diana Barbera.

She was predeceased in death by her brother Sonny Vadala and sister Josephine Barbera. 

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St James Catholic Church, 905 Park Avenue, Falls Church, VA on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 10am.

Other funeral arrangements will be private.
