Obituary of Carolyn Marie Schranz

Carolyn Marie (Handy) Schranz of Lorton, Virginia died suddenly at home on January 25, 2021.  She was a fifth generation Washingtonian, born at Columbia Hospital for Women on Ocotober 8, 1947, the daughter of Levin Paul (Pete) Handy and Esther Marie (Sauter) Handy.  She grew up around the world going to high schools on three continents.  On September 15, 1973 she married Peter Schranz at Naval Air Station Point Mugu, California and continue moving around the world and the USA.  She completed the Educatio for Parish Services Program at Trinity University (DC).

She was a loving and nurturing mother to her family.  She also was a devout Catholic and was active in churches everywhere they lived.  Additionally she found great pride in serviing as a Naval Arlington Lady for more than 20 years.  He love and skill of knitting were unparalleled as she was never found without her knitting nearby. 

She is survived by her husband Peter of Lordon, VA, daughter LCOL Gretchen Gardner, USA, husband Eric and their children Virctoria and Olivia of Mons, Belgium and daughter Heidi of Burke, VA.  She is also survived by her brother John (wife Nancy) of Oakton, VA, brother Jim (wife Mary) of Los Gatos, CA and sister Trish Handy Lyons (husband Bob) of Washington, DC.  She is greatly missed by all who knew her.
