Obituary of Phyllis Curt

Phylis Curt, R.N., Home Health Care pioneer, dies at age 92.

Phyllis Curt, whose nursing career spanned 60 years, passed away March 14, 2020. Phyllis was well known to
Northern Virginia Doctors for her tireless work with senior patients. Her favorite patients, however, were premature babies. In the 1950’s she rose to the position of Head Nurse for Neonatology at the University of Virginia Medical Center. After her marriage to Dr. Ralph Curt, her efforts focused on their family practice in Falls Church. Phyllis volunteered to help the Falls Church School System for eye and hearing screenings, and assisted the speech pathologist when the student load was heavy. Widowed in 1973, Phyllis found an excellent doctor, Barry Byer, to continue the family practice. During that time, she saw a need for senior citizen home healthcare alternatives. She was proudest of her work as Director of Care Givers, Columbia Baptist Church’s senior care division. She was a board member of the Mental Health Committee at Columbia Baptist. She retired after consulting for Home Maker Upjohn, Davis and Dewey Associates, and for several Nurse Training entities.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Nancy C. Peacock (David), her son Walter Curt (Martha), and grandchildren
David M. Peacock, Martha Peacock Nette, Edward Curt, Walter Curt, Charles Curt and William Curt. She is also
survived by 4 brothers and one sister. There will be a private burial at Arlington National Cemetery and a
