Obituary of Elvira Mayer Slijepcevic

Elvira Mayer Slijepcevic, of McLean, Virginia, left us on August 1, 2013 after being struck by a car in McLean. She leaves behind a grieving family. Her husband of 65 years, Sinisa, her daughters Renata and Gordana, her seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Andreas, Adriana, Raphaela, Daphne, Michaela and Christopher, her sons-in-law Hellmut and Samuel, as well as her nephew Neven and his family. She was known to her U.S. friends as Eve. Elvira was born in 1929 in Zagreb, Croatia, where she married her husband while he was in medical school. They emigrated with their daughters to Germany in 1967, and then settled in Virginia in 1969. Elvira cared deeply about, and dedicated her life to, the wellbeing and comfort of her family and her many friends. She loved literature, opera, as well as music by Croatian songwriters. She loved to play bridge, travel, garden, and take long walks. She was admired by all for her wonderful style and taste. She is missed and she lives on in our hearts. Services were held in Croatia on August 4, 2013.
