Obituary of Ernest B. Gutierrez

Foreign Service Officer On Wednesday, August 21, 2013, Ernie Gutierrez, age 94, a 32 year resident co-owner at Skyline Plaza, passed away peacefully after a heart attack earlier in the month. A native of New Mexico, Ernie was completing his studies at Eastern New Mexico State University while training as a Naval Air Cadet as the nation prepared for World War II, but was recruited and brought to Washington in 1941 by the US State Department, beginning a career which included posts in Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. After retirement from his 36-year career in the Foreign Service, Ernie and his wife Maria settled into their apartment at Skyline, but they also traveled extensively, enjoyed many cruises as well as a winter home in Spain. Ernie and Maria have made many friends at Skyline. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife Maria, Ernie is survived by his sons, Ernest Jr. and Richard; his daughter in law, Nancy, all residents of the DC area; his daughter, Sonia of Tucson, Arizona; his brother, Gilbert Gutierrez of La Luz, New Mexico; his grandsons, Michael and Stephen, and Michael’s wife, Linda. A memorial service will be held at Advent Funeral Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.
