Obituary of Eugene E. Sobolewski

Eugene E. Sobolewski of New Carrollton, MD died on September 6, 2013. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ruth Hunter Sobolewski; loving father of Stephan E. Sobolewski and his fiancée Kristina Hoxha; Ann M. Nicklas; Thomas P. Sobolewski and his wife Kathie; and Bonnie L. Sobolewski, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a constantly supportive niece, Kathy Hunter Apfelbeck and her husband Chuck, and a large loving family. Mr. Sobolewski is a native of Phillipston, PA and served in the U.S. Navy after graduation from High School. He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad during his summer vacations from college and graduated in 1950 from The Catholic University of America with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the District of Columbia Government, Highways and Bridge Division from 1951 until his retirement in 1989. He served on the District of Columbia Contract Appeal Board for 20 years. He received numerous accommodations and awards during his career. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the DC Government Highway Department Alumni Association. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or Hospice of the Chesapeake. The family will receive friends on Monday Sept 9, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Advent Funeral Services, 9013 Annapolis Road, Lanham, MD 20706. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Sept. 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 5700 Saint Bernard Drive, Riverdale, Md 20737. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
