This photo is how I remember Joy, always doing something beautiful to make other people happy. Joy was my Mom’s best-friend. I find peace in the thought that they are together again climbing mountains and making friends. For the family that stays behind, I am truly sorry. No words will make this easier, just know my heart is with each and everyone of you during this time. Love, Nancy

I am sorry I never met Joy Garney but I have the pleasure of knowing her daughter Debbie. I see the same passion for life through her daughter. Fond memories will always be with you, and shared with your siblings.

What a fabulous photo of Aunt Joy…It’s perfect – and “the cookies”!!! What you wrote is just as wonderful as her life. My mother adored her sister, thus we heard so many stories growing up that I felt like I knew most of what was written. A few unknown details though in her early years. I remember our family visiting in DC when I was 10 or so and loved EXPLORING your house. My favorites were the wood carvings, seashell table and absolute loved the zebra rug. But the stand out was the life-sized doll that sat in a chair. Joy specifically told us “she does not get touched”, and as you know, we absolutely did not touch her! ; ) Another memory from that trip was aunt Joy’s cooking!!!! Her eggs and tomatoes were soooo incredible, I still make that breakfast dish to this day! : ) However, when my mother told us aunt Joy was making “chow mein” for dinner, we Gable girls were so excited. That was until she gave us the toppings — bananas, nuts, tomatoes, coconut, etc. We made separate piles of each on our plates and ate them like snacks, while watching with amazement how Joy mixed hers altogether and relished it. = ) She will be dearly missed and very fondly remembered. Thank you for sharing her rich and robust life with us. It is definitely one to celebrate! Thoughts, prayers and big hugs to you all. With love.

I was so sad to hear of Joy’s passing. She fed me and provided loads of entertainment by including me on the trips to festivals. Smart, well-read and interesting. I am lucky to have known her and will hold all of you Garneys in my heart at this time and for the months to come.
