Obituary of Gwendolyn E. Osurman

Gwendolyn E. Osurman passed away on November 19, 2013 at Inova Heart and Vascular Hospital in Falls Church, VA. She was 67. Gwen was born on April 20, 1946 in Honolulu, HI. She was the daughter of Eugenia and Juan Quisano. She had 3 sisters and 8 brothers. She married her high school sweetheart, Gilbert Osurman. They were married for 50 years. She had three children, Jessica, Maxine, and Taiho. Gwen was an Army wife and followed her husband to various parts of the world, Germany, Japan, and Korea to name a few. She fell in love with Korea. They lived there for 6 years and made many friends there. In Japan, she was a matron of the Order of Eastern Stars. As a Mother Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for girls, she received the Grand Cross of Colors. Gwen had many jobs during her life. In the 1970’s, she was made a head teller at the post bank in Camp Zama, Japan, an honor held previously by men only. In Arizona, she began her career at AAFES (military exchange). She was the operations clerk for a few years than transferred as the secretary for the manager of AAFES. She became sick with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and soon retired from working. She battled this cancer twice and won but at a price. The chemotherapy severely damaged her heart. She fought congestive heart failure for 20 years. On October 1, 2013, she underwent the LVAD surgery. Her body never fully recovered and she passed away. Gwen enjoyed life. She was also very proud of her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. She was an avid sports fan. She loved the Washington Nationals and the Washington Capitals. She followed the University of Arizona Men’s Basketball team. She also liked to bowl with her husband. She also loved golf and attempted to learn how to golf while living in Korea. She also loved to gamble. She was very lucky at the casinos. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert Osurman. Her three children and their spouses, Jessica and Stephen Botts, El Paso TX; Maxine and Craig Euto, Triangle, VA; Taiho and Jia Osurman, Potomac Falls, VA. She had 6 grandchildren: Dan Euto, Fairfax VA; Joshua and Ashley (granddaughter in law) Botts, Augusta, GA; Sarra Euto, Portland, OR; Elissa Botts, Charlotte, NC; Emily Euto, Richmond, VA, Ethan Osurman, Potomac Falls, VA. One great grandchild, Braylee Saige Noelani Botts, Augusta, GA. She is also survived by her 3 sisters, Loretta Alba, Honolulu, HI; Daryl Lynn Funke, Hereford, AZ; Patricia Malama, Honolulu, HI. Her brothers, Johnny Quisano, Honolulu, HI; Richard Quisano, San Diego, CA; Ronald Quisano, Gary Quisano, Arthur Quisano, Allen Quisano, all from Honolulu, HI. She was predeceased by 2 of her brothers, James Quisano in 2012 and Leslie Quisano, November 4, 2013. She had numerous nieces and nephews. Gwen will be sorely missed. She was loved by everyone that she met. She always had a smile and a hug for everyone. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield VA on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00PM.
