Obituary of Suzette Gabeau Fulton

Passed away suddenly at age 58 on Saturday, February 22, at her District Heights, Md., home, from complications related to diabetes. Despite suffering from chronic, debilitating illness for many years, Suzette retained remarkable resilience, tenacity, spirit and zest for life, family and friends. Born June 8, 1955, in Boston, Mass., Suzette grew up traveling the world with her U.S. Foreign Service family, residing in New Delhi, India; Pelham, NY; Ankara, Turkey; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Arlington, Va. She attended international, American and French schools overseas, High Mowing boarding school in Wilton, N.H., Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt., and the Corcoran College of Art in Washington, DC. Outgoing, athletic and creative, she won medals in swimming, diving and equestrian events, studied dance, the sitar and the guitar, acted in drama club productions, and was a gifted artist who enjoyed drawing, painting, sculpting, crocheting and crewel work. She was a secretary for Heldref Publications and other Washington, D.C., organizations, a teacher’s assistant in Jakarta, and a nurse’s aide. Suzette’s mother, Pepita Kauffman, and oldest brother, Gregor Kudarauskas, predeceased her. Survivors include her beloved, devoted husband of 29 years, William Thompson Fulton, her father, Kenneth Kauffman, siblings Aleida Inglis, Lisa Forrence (Earl), Mark Kudarauskas, Laura Williams (Ted), Kenneth Kauffman (Cameron) and Hilary Shughart (Bill), nieces, nephews and grandnieces. Graveside service will be on Friday, March 14, 2 p.m., at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Md. Arrangements by Advent Funeral Services, Falls Church, Va.
