Obituary of Helen Catherine Smith DiGiovanni

Cathy DiGiovanni, 65, passed away at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia, with her loving daughter Andrea and her beloved sister Mary by her side on April 25, 2014. Cathy was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 25, 1948, and resided in Virginia Beach, but traveled the world both as the daughter of a Navy pilot and as a flight attendant for 43 years with United Airlines. Cathy is survived by her daughter Andrea DiGiovanni, of Arlington, Virginia, her father, Myrtis (Red) Baxter Smith and stepmother, Jane Stinson Garrison Smith, of Virginia Beach, and her seven siblings: Raymond J. Smith of Dunn Loring, Virginia; James R. Smith of New Bern, North Carolina; Thomas M. Smith of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Barbara Smith Wade of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Mary Smith Crepeau of Norfolk, Virginia; Carolyn Smith Harrison of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Sharon Smith Downey of Springfield, Virginia. She is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews and one great-niece. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on the Chesapeake Bay at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at 10:00 a.m. on May 18, 2014.
