My first memory of Grayson was his involvement in sports at St. James. I admired how he was personally involved in the life of his players, and thus respected and looked up to as a coach and as someone who really had a heart for young people. While teaching and coaching at Bishop O’Connell high school I observed regularly Grayson’s presence at many of the school’s athletic competitions for both boys and girls. He clearly was one who saw the value of athletics in the educational development of young people.
Personally, I became aware of his generosity when Therese and I were expecting our second child and had just moved into a house that had no central air conditioning. We called on Bishop’s Equipment to do the job. And did they ever!! While I don’t recall the actual cost, I do recall that I was dumbfounded by the generosity of Grayson in what he charged for the installation.
Grayson was a man for all people; warm hearted, generous, self-giving. A true friend. God bless all of the Bishop family. Thank you Grayson, you will be missed.
For sure Jesus welcomed Grayson with open arms.
Hello Tom – Thank you for your post to my dad’s online guestbook via Advent Funeral Home. I’ve sent other emails through this portal but not heard back (despite requesting a reply). Given that experience, I’ll be brief here and ask you to tell me that you got this by emailing me directly at [email protected] Thank you! – Bryan

I was in “L” Company, 424th Regiment, 106th Div with Grayson. We were in Camp Atterbury, Indiana and England and all through the action in Europe together. We have talked often on the phone over the years. Grayson was always bright of spirit and cheerful in our conversations. He was one of my most respected phone friends. My sympathy and prayers are sent to Laura, his children and grandchildren. My heart is saddened. I will miss him.
Hello Mr. Wyss –
Thank you for what you posted about my father, Grayson Bishop. Just yesterday it occurred to me that I never heard my dad speak of commanding troops pursuant to his battlefield commission. That may be because he was serving at the company (battalion? regimental?) headquarters keeping communications sound-power communications operational. And I know that after Germany’s surrender he served in military occupation until returning to the States in roughly October 1945. If you could shed any light on his history between his battlefield commission (the date of which I do not know) and his return, I would be so glad for it. And I would be glad as well for any additional anecdotes or stories which you might care to pass along. My email = [email protected], and my work telephone number = 703-641-0300.
Appreciatively,
– Bryan R. Bishop
PS If you were to email me, then I would — if you’d like — attach my favorite picture of my father.

MY FATHER’S SHOES
I’ll polish my father’s shoes in the mourning, The ones he’ll wear in the box. And I’ll take care (he taught me to care) To polish not his socks.
I’ll polish my father’s shoes in the mourning. They’ll shine, those shoes — yes they will! Yet they’ll be dim (when compared to him), Those shoes just Dad could fill.
— in loving memory of A. Grayson Bishop — by his younger son in the pm of 7-27-14
