Obituary of RAYMOND F. BERGSTROM

RAYMOND F. BERGSTROM, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (Ret), a 20-year resident of Alexandria, Virginia, died suddenly at home on August 28, 2014. He was 85. Eva Marie, his beloved wife of 56 years, predeceased him by three months. He was the youngest child of Leo and Anna Bergstrom of western Pennsylvania and is survived by his sister Doris Shimpf, 7 nieces and nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nieces and nephews. Raymond enlisted in the Army in 1952 and was commissioned through OCS in 1954. After language school he was posted with military intelligence in Berlin, where he met Eva in 1956. His distinguished career included armored battalion commander in Vietnam. After the Army he managed Foodlander in Germany and taught history. Raymond and Eva, who were inseparable in life, will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors following a joint funeral service at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Meyer, Virginia, on September 11, 2014.
