Obituary of Jean L. White

(Lilian) Jean White, born to Henry C. Larcombe and Olive E. (Stevens) Larcombe in Lanham, MD on November 8, 1915, passed away at the age of 99 on December 2, 2014 at Washington Adventist Hospital. Jean lived in her home in Lanham until her hospitalization several weeks earlier. Jean was the last and youngest of the five “Larcombe Girls”, having been predeceased by her sisters Mary Hagan, Olive E. Botts, Ethel Griest, and Helen Tither, in addition to her parents. She was also the widow of Frank B. White, Jr. to whom she was married for 59 years. Jean was a lover of all animals, and friends are encouraged to make a donation to the SPCA. She and Frank loved raising and developing new varieties of the thousands of beautiful azaleas and rhododendron which surrounded their home, Azalea Acres, in Lanham. Jean leaves behind her brother-in-law, Herbert White and his wife, Rose of Gretna,LA.; sister-in-law, Josephine Cowgill of Baton Rouge, LA; and sister-in-law Helen Allmond of NH; nieces Jane Hagan Burke of Annapolis, and Marianne Russo of Scarborough, Maine. She was grateful to her former neighbor Victor Brittain for all of his help in allowing her to remain in her home for so long. She is also survived by numerous grand-nieces and nephews in addition to many friends, neighbors, and former neighbors. Jean was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church of Lanham and will be greatly missed by her many friends there. Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 17, from 10:30 am until time of service at 11:00am, at Lanham United Methodist Church, 5512 Whitfield Chapel Road, Lanham, MD. 20706. Interment to follow in church cemetery.
