Obituary of Samuel Lawrence Harrington

Samuel Lawrence “Larry” Harrington, Jr. Samuel Lawrence “Larry” Harrington, Jr.—beloved husband, dad, and poppy—died peacefully surrounded by family members on January 9, 2020 in Falls Church, Virginia, at 77 years old. He was born on November 16, 1942 in Washington, District of Columbia, to parents Samuel and Kathren Harrington. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 31 years Norine Amelia Harrington. He is survived by his wife, Judith Superticioso Harrington; brothers Robert Harrington (Linda) and Stephen Harrington (Linda); children William Askin (Lori), Mark Askin (Kathy), James Harrington (Kathy), Jinky Samson, James Samson, and Peter John Samson; grandchildren Kristen Gerhold (Patrick), Jennifer Kawecki (Kevin), Billy Askin, Wesley Askin, Emily Thomas (Stephen), Spencer Askin (Mandy), Alex Crosson, Nick Crosson, Dylan Crosson, Amelia Harrington, and Elizabeth Harrington; great-grandchildren Tristan Tanner, Stephen Thomas, Piper Gerhold, Harper Gerhold, Logan Askin, and Olivia Kawecki. After high school, Larry served in the United States Army. He worked as a Serviceman for Washington Gas for 30 years. Larry was passionate about all kinds of sports, especially the Washington Redskins, Senators, Nationals and Capitals. He coached generations of kids in baseball and softball, including many of his own children and grandchildren. There will be a visitation at Friendship United Methodist Church, 3527 Gallows Road, Falls Church, VA 22042 on January 17 from 6:00-8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 18 at Friendship United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington, VA at 12:45 PM. Following the burial there will be a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made either to Annandale Christian Community for Action (www.accacares.org) or Friendship United Methodist Church (to address above).
