Lois – I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I feel priviledged to have known him and will always be grateful for his friendship and guidance. He helped me through a very difficult time and his faith gave me great solace. I will always be grateful that he introduced me to The Falls Church when Kyle and I were searching for a church. I keep you and your family in my prayers. He was much loved and will be missed.

Lois, I am so very sorry. Knowing Bob and working with him on the RPI Council was both a pleasure and a privilege. All of us on the Council will miss his gentle, gentlemanly demeanor and the ever-present smile on his face. I feel that I am very fortunate to have known him and to have called him friend.

Our family send our sincere condolences to the family.
Even thogh Bob was a distant relative and lived far away from us he had a special place in ours hearts. We feel blessed that we attended this last reunion and got to see him this last time even thogh none of us expected it to be the last.
It feels unreal that he’s gone and we will always remember him for the extraordinary person he was. Our thoughts are with the family.

To Lois and family,
I met Bob in 2005 on my first trip to Aland. He was a most helpful guide to a “newbie” like me on that trip . Bob was a true Ambassador to the Lindholm family on both sides of the “Pond”. My most cherished keepsake from him will be the Marine Corps pin that he got for me during his personal tour that he gave of Ft. Myer at our June family reunion. In true form, he was a stoic & steady Marine to the end………

To Lois and all members of Bob’s family, I send my deepest condolences. This is hard to understand, just some weeks ago Bob was planning next family reunion in the Åland Islands in 2013 and now he has passed away, but I am glad I was able to learn to know him and his family and I am sure he will be with us in our thoughts forever.

Our family was so sadden to hear of Bob’s passing and our sincere condolences are with all his family and friends. Having met Bob with our extended family in Aland was such a pleasure a few years back. He put a great deal of time and effort into bridging the gap between all the folks in the states and those in Aland. I will be eternally grateful for all his dedication in helping establishing that link and all the joy it has brought to the extended Carlson family. His endearing faith will continue to carry him for all eternity and I personally look forward to the day we will meet again. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during the difficult days that lie ahead.

Bob was a wonderful member of The Salvation Army Board of Advisors for almost 50 years. He was very dedicated to the mission of The Salvation Army of helping those who are less fortunate. The Board will never be the same without him. I always enjoyed his comments and his thoughtfulness. Eternal grace to Bob and God’s blessings and grace to his family. Bill Schmidt

I admired Bob as a friend for more than forty years. We were bound together by our interest in Jaycees. His Jaycee was key to the establishment of the Virginia JCI Senate and later the USJCI Senate…a founding father of both. He was blessed with a special talent…to be a friend to all he met. His organizational skill was second to none. The world is a poorer place without Bob’s personality. My deepest sympathy to Lois and Bob’s family. His extended family is also mourning his loss.

Lois and family,
My condolences to you and all members of Bob’s and your family. This was really unexpected and hard to understand how sudden it all happened. I remember Bob so well from his previous visits to Aland during the past decade, how kind a person he was, how he looked one straight in the eyes and his firm handshake were some of the things I noticed from the first time I had the pleasure of meeting Bob. A person I will remember with fondness and will miss forever.

Dear family of Bob — my sincere condolances to all of you. In the short time I knew Bob I was well aware of his keen interest in LIFE. The first time i met Bob was at a Music gathering just outside Mariehamn on the Aaland Islands. I play the nyckelharpa(Swedish Fiddle) and was playing at this musical gathering. Fellow Americans always gravitate. I learned of his interest in his family living on the islands. (My late husband’s mother was from Aaland and through him i have learned to LOVE these people and their life there – last summer i attended a music camp on one of the very small islands – 50 participants from the ages of 4-70!) Bob and I kept in touch via email and then last year he invited me to meet him and his family at the Marymount University graduation as his grandchild was graduating. I have been a faculty member of Marymount for 16 years(just retired!). I did not attend the graduation last year because a memorial garden for my late husband was being dedicated that day. I have contact with family and friends on the Islands. Do not hesitate contacting me should you have any interest or questions. I understand that you are quite connected also thanks to Bob and his way of meeting and keeping in touch with people. We give thanks for Bob and the years that he had with you. May your days of mourning gradually turn to remembering the happy days you had together. With kind regards and sympathy. To Lois and all the other members of Bob’s extended family: Anyone who ever knew Bob is sharing your grief today. I had the privilege of knowing him ever since we went through Officer Screening at Quantico in 1951. I came to know him better over the last twenty years when Bob was one of the leaders in organizing our 5th SBC classs. He was so thoughtful and so responsible as he planned our get-togethers. Always low key, always smiling, Bob’s manifold expression of his love for his fellow man was an example for all of us. What has been so devastating about his departure is that we all saw him just a couple of months ago and he looked wonderful. Farewell Bob! you made Semper Fidelis a little more meaningful for us all. Van, and my wife Milena, who came to know you well.

My association with Bob was all too brief. We met at a meeting of the Falls Church Military Forum. He then helped arrange a forthcoming presentation on the Iwo Jima campaign. Bob was a take-charge kind of guy. Though our friendship was brief, it was a privilege to have known him.

Lois, we consider ourselves so fortunate to have known Bob and been able to share family times with him. He always had a way of making one feel welcome, relaxed and happy. His life accomplishments are just amazing and we could go on for pages listing his wonderful attributes. It also touched our hearts to see how much he adored and loved you. Hoping we can celebrate his life more once the hurting has subsided a bit. With love,Susie and Ken.
