Obituary of Joyce Fleener Lee

Joyce Evelyn Fleener Lee June 2, 1936 – July 24, 2011 Joyce Lee, 75, a short-time resident of Northern Virginia, died Sunday the 24th of July at Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington, Virginia. Born on June 2, 1936 in West Palm Beach, FL Joyce grew up with her parents William and Mildred Fleener and younger sister, Sue. She graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL and studied early childhood education. While attending college, she met her future husband, Aubrey K. Lee, Jr. who was also attending the University of Florida. Upon their graduations, Aubrey and Joyce married and moved to Atlanta, GA and then Cleveland, OH while Aubrey began his advertising career and Joyce taught preschool and kindergarten. They settled in the Pittsburgh, PA area where they raised their family. Joyce worked with young children throughout her lifetime and was a wonderful teacher, mentor, and lover of life. Joyce and Aubrey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September 2008 in Ocala, FL where they previously retired to be near family. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, loved birds and nature, enjoyed attending church, was a proud University of Florida Gators football fan, and just loved life and people in general. Joyce will forever be remembered by her loving children (daughter, Karen Joyce Lee Hodgdon and son-in-law, Dean Hodgdon, Sr. of Avella, PA; son, Aubrey “Ken” Lee, III and daughter-in-law, Melissa Bittner Lee of Springfield, VA), her devoted sister (Sue Chancey of Ocala, FL), treasured grandchildren (Erica Hodgdon, Dean Hodgdon, Jr., and Caitlin Lee), along with other wonderful friends and extended family members who were blessed to know her. Joyce was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Aubrey Kenneth Lee, Jr. on August 10, 2009. A memorial service is being held to celebrate the life of Joyce Lee on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, Virginia. A short reception will follow in the church Fellowship Hall to remember Joyce and her life and meet with her family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in memory of Joyce Lee to Capital Care Hospice in Arlington, VA or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, VA.
