Obituary of Bette K. Smith

Bette Kirkpatrick Smith passed away October 2, 2011 at the age of 77 at her home in Centreville, VA. She was born to Ralph and Elma (Ferguson) Kirkpatrick on January 16, 1934. She was a native of Haynesville, LA graduating from Haynesville High School in 1952. She attended Tyler Commercial College in Tyler, TX. Bette had a long, outstanding career with the Federal government from 1957 to 2002. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant and retired from the Office of Naval Research in Washington DC. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, the love of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Bobby G. Smith, son, Brian Kirk Smith and sister, Janie Blackwell. Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Kent Tovey of Overland Park, KS; son and daughter-in-law Brad and Ginnie Smith of Centreville, VA; three granddaughters Breanna (Tovey) and her husband Marc Montreuil of North Las Vegas, NV, Alyssa Tovey of Emporia, KS, and Kylee Smith of Centreville, VA. Also surviving are her sisters, Pat Bourn of Haynesville, LA, and Janet Bice of Lake Charles, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date in Haynesville, LA.
