Obituary of Walter Ragland

On Sunday, October 16, 2011 he went to be with the Lord. Walter Ragland of Woodbridge, VA, was born April 7, 1935 in the Borough of Manhattan, NY. He served in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged receiving the medal of good conduct. He loved the military and was a Marine in his heart until the day he died. Over the years he held several different positions. After moving to Arlington, VA he worked at the Carlyle House for 10 years before retiring. He was an avid football fan and loved the New York Giants with a passion. He also loved fishing, golfing, politics and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife Alma Edwards Ragland of Woodbridge, VA, son Cary Ragland, Charleston, SC, daughter Carla Ragland-Rose and son-in-law Michael Rose, Fort Washington, MD, step-sons, Duane Johnson wife Betty, Woodbridge, VA, Lamonte Johnson, Alexandria, VA, step-daughter Cristal Johnson Stewart( husband Everard), Manassas, VA in addition to his stepchildren from his first marriage, Christopher Middleton, Columbia, SC, Cynthia Nelson, Elmwood Park NJ, Allan Nelson, Charleston, SC, Earl Nelson, Charleston SC, Marie Nelson, Crawford, NJ, Calisa Nelson, Charleston, SC and Tony Johnson, Queens, NY. Two nieces, Cheryl Ragland, Bronx, New York, Jeanie Ragland Weeks (husband Wayne), Hope Mills, NC. Four grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Agnes Wilson Ragland and Charles Ragland Sr., one brother Charles Ragland and son Phillip Ragland. A viewing will be held at 10:00am and the Funeral service will follow at 11:00am on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 2700 19th Street, South, Arlington, VA 22204. Internment will be at Quantico National Cemetery at 1:00 where he will be buried with Military Honors. He will be remembered forever and deeply missed.
