Obituary of Michael Anthony Garfield

Michael was born on October 13, 1962 at Fort Jay Hospital in New York City. He graduated from Hayfield High School in Virginia in 1981. Michael attended Washington Bible College, Liberty University, and Northern Virginia Community College where he received an Associate degree and went to George Mason University and received his Bachelor’s degree in History in 2004. Michael lived in Paris, France, Germany, Presidio of San Francisco, CA, Fort Eustis, VA, Fort Dix, NJ and Fort Belvoir, VA. Michael worked for the Arlington County School System for over 10 years. He was an active member of Capital Baptist Church where he was a part of various ministries, including teaching, playing in the orchestra and the Christmas pageant. Michael served on the Board of the Hemophilia Association. His hobbies included playing various woodwind instruments especially the Flute. He played in the orchestra in High School. He loved being on the computer and using SKYPE with his brother, bowling, photography, dancing and listening to Calypso music. Michael received Christ as his Savior at the age of 13 and has been serving the Lord ever since. Survivors include his wife Robin Garfield of Annandale, VA. His parents Yvonne and Ramon Garfield of Alexandria, VA. Brother David and sister in law Gwendolyn of Augusta, GA and his sister Ruth Garfield of Alexandria. VA. Nieces Lauren & Danielle Paul of VA, Step-nieces Gwendolyn Carter and Natasha Webster of Augusta, GA. Uncles Rev. Listen Garfield, Rudolph Garfield, Victor Garfield, Verne Watley, Larry Dixon and Justine Harrigan. Aunts Lillian Garfield, Inez Dixon, Winifred Garfield, Alda Garfield, Jacqueline Garfield and Deirdre Watley. Michael has many cousins and friends. His mother in law Helen Fahnestock. Brothers and sisters in law Barbara and Jan Ross of Chambersburg, PA. Betty and Mark Winebrenner of Aberdeen MD, Melvin and Robin Baker of Friedens, PA. and Jeff and Heather Baker Fairhope, PA, and all of their children. The family will receive friends on Monday October 31, 2011 from 5pm-9pm at Capital Baptist Church, 3504 Gallows Road, Annandale VA. Services will be held on Tuesday November 1st at 11am. Interment Comps Cemetery, Hyndman, PA on Wednesday November 2 at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the National Hemophilia Foundation.
