Obituary of James W. Lash

JAMES WILLIAM LASH (Colonel, USA) (Age 98) Longtime resident of Arlington, VA on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Beloved husband of the late Alice Bisbee Lash. Cherished father of Linda Lamatrice and her partner, Norm Waters, of Arlington, VA, and of Lorraine (Doug) Kirkpatrick of Falls Church, VA; proud grandfather of Michael Kirkpatrick, Amy Kirkpatrick and Michael (Grace Wolf) Lamatrice; loving great-grandfather of Will and Maggie Duncan; also survived by step-grandchildren, Susie Hill and Michelle (Paul) McDonald, step-great-grandchild, Lani Wolf and numerous cousins. He especially enjoyed being with his dear companion, Alice Thompson, during his later years. A veteran of WWII, Jim retired as a Colonel in 1966 after serving with the Signal Corps, including tours with NATO and in Korea. Jim also worked as a civilian for the US Army Corps of Engineers, at the Ford Motor Co. as Senior Cost Accountant, for Research Analysis Corp. in McLean, VA, and a number of other jobs throughout the years. Hobbies included bowling, traveling, investing in the stock market and dining out. Jim was a wonderful father and “Grandpa” who gave his family unconditional love always. He had a keen intelligence and a great sense of humor and he was generous to all who were lucky enough to be in his life. He genuinely enjoyed being with others, possessed a great curiosity, and was known for his enduring optimism and sunny disposition. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Burial with full military honors will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11 AM at Arlington National Cemetery.
