Obituary of Esther K. Reed

Esther K. Reed of Arlington, VA died peacefully at her home on March 9, 2012, at the age of 89. She was born January 1, 1923, in Cumberland, MD, the seventh of eight children of Jacob and Ida Kishter. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Paul Reed, the last of the Washington Color School painters, and her daughter, Jean Reed Roberts of Scottsdale, AZ. Her sons, Thomas W. Reed and Robert A. Reed predeceased her. She leaves ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren who called her “Mimi” because she felt that she was too young to be called grandma. After careers in business and the Federal Government, she became a jewelry designer. Her unique necklaces are cherished by her family, friends and clients. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her beautiful gardens, the incredible meals she served to everyone who entered her home and her very sharp wit. Private services were held in her garden. In lieu of flowers, memory donations may be made to Capital Caring Hospice at 950 W. Glebe Rd, Ste 300, Arlington, VA 22203.
