I only knew the Art that owned the Ace Hardware. I worked there for two years while in high school. It was my first job. Art came to my graduation. I was just thinking of him and looked him up and was surprised he only recently died. He was a good man and good boss. Reading his obituary makes me realize how little I knew about him. I think he would be proud to know I have been serving our country for the last 18 years in the Army and am currently a judge. He trained me well!
Tim, I want you to know how amazed and delighted my siblings and I were when we discovered your message. Thank you for so kindly posting it. Dad would have been so pleased to know of your success! And it was great to hear from one of his employees from the store. I hope you check back on this page someday and see this message.

As a fellow veteran, I salute him for his service to his country and devotion and love for his family and friend. I met him through his daughter Melissa. God bless him for he is on eagles wings in heaven.

Dear Holly, Michael, Jeffrey, Melissa and your extended family members,
Ralph and I offer you our belated condolences on Art’s passing – the same month and day on which my dad passed fourteen years ago – a member also of the “Greatest Generation,” and a WWII veteran now innured with my mom at Arlington National Cemetery among the many selfless heroes like Art.
We, too, (like others who signed this register) were pleased to have been able to share the Celebration of June’s life last year and found her life’s many acheivements, like Art’s to be inspiring.
We both send you our warmest wishes of sympathy on the loss of two remarkable and loving parents.
With Love, Susanne and Ralph Boehm

Thank you, Nancy, and thanks to all who have contacted us with memories of our dad. Please post comments here so we’ll have a central place for them. Also, I want to share this wonderful poem, “High Flight,” which one of our local TV stations used years ago when signing off for the night at 1:00 AM with a reading of the following:
“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
“Up, up the long delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle, flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.”

Dear Family and Friends of June and Art,
I met many of you at June’s Celebration of Life. Mel and I have been friends for a long time, originally meeting through our love for house rabbits. Through our many intimate conversations over the years, I felt as though I knew June, although I did not meet her in person due to her need for privacy in her final months.
At her Celebration, I was amazed by her life…education, experience, contributions, and beauty inside and out. What a remarkable woman. And I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the relatives and friends, as well as hearing all the stories and memories shared by many.
At June’s Celebration, I met Art in person. Again, I felt as though I knew him through the many conversations Mel and I have had. However, in person, I found Art quite remarkable and enjoyed conversing with him that evening and on another evening having dinner with the family at the family home. I was looking forward to cooking for him and enjoying his company for years to come.
My sympathy to the extended family and the friends of this lovely couple. And many thanks to the gifts they have given to all of us.
As was June’s obituary, so is Art’s…so heartfelt and eloquent.
Blessings and comfort to all…may you continue to celebrate their lives and your own.
Sincerely, Nancy
