Obituary of Deta Caroline Follin

Deta Caroline Follin of Falls Church Virginia, passed away on the morning of May 3, 2012 after a long illness. She was born June 2, 1921 on the island of Jamaica, joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service during WWII, moved stateside soon after and met William Walter Follin, her late husband of 60 years. She was the mother of four: William, Deta “Miss Deets”, Gregory, and the late Ronald; Grandma to eight: Nicole, Justin, Joshua, Deta Brianne, Devon, Sean, Noah, and Sullivan Ballou; great grandmother of three: Layla, Deacon, and Brecken; and mother-in-law to Jackie, Jimmy and Mary. Her house was home to generations of holidays, giant Christmas trees, crepe breakfasts, cats, dogs, teenagers, and thousands and thousands of flowers in the garden. She wore bangles on her wrists that jangled, watched birds from her kitchen window, and played Crazy 8s with her grandkids. She was very loved and full of grace. Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 11, 10:30 AM at the McLean Bible Church, 8925 Leesburg Pike, McLean, VA 22102. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Falls Church, VA. Directions to the church: Coming west from Tysons Corner along Route 7: about ¼ mile west of Route 267 (“The Dulles Toll Road”) enter the church property from one of the two left turn lanes at the traffic signal, at the intersection of “Lewinsville Road” and Route 7 (Leesburg Pike). If you look closely, you will see a huge two-story parking garage on your left. Coming east from Reston, Sterling and Leesburg along Route 7: enter the church property by turning right at the traffic signal, at the intersection of “Lewinsville Road” and Route 7 (Leesburg Pike). You will see a huge two-story parking garage on your right. As you enter “The Ring Road” that encircles the church property, stay to the left, and go up the parking garage ramp to the second level [upper level] of the large parking garage. Bear left toward the flag pole and the far left corner of the parking garage. Look for the concrete “bridge” to the left of the flag pole. Walk over that concrete bridge and enter the Main Lobby through any of the multiple glass doors. Proceed straight ahead to the back right corner of the Main Lobby. The funeral service will take place in the room just beyond the Bookstore.
