Obituary of Frederick R. Pivarnik

Frederick Raymond Pivarnik 11/2/1926-6/6/2012 Age 85, from Annandale, VA died at home in Hospice after many medical complications. Born in Bridgeport, CT. He was the son of Peter Pivarnik and Sophie Smith Pivarnik. Frederick served in the U.S. Army in WWII, He graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a BS & MS in Sociology. Frederick started his career as a Connecticut state parole officer . In 1965, he worked for the federal administrative court system, and in 1973, became Assistant Chief of Probation. He was responsible for training new probation officers, and for the oversight of the South West Division. In later years, Fred also volunteered at PBS station WETA, and as a guide at the US Capitol. Frederick will be remembered for his affable nature and warm smile, a good friend and generous member to his community. In 1952, he married Bernice Podrasky of Bridgeport, CT. They shared a life of almost 60 years together. Bernice Pivarnik passed away 24 days after Frederick. (They missed their 60th wedding anniversary by 1 day). He is survived by daughter- Susan Nicholson of Herndon, VA; Son- Matthew Pivarnik of Gloucester, VA; and 3 grandchildren. Internment for Bernice & Frederick will be at Arlington National Cemetery on November 1,1912 @ 11:00 am at the Columnbarium/Niche Wall. Reception to follow immediately after the service at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial on the grounds of the cemetery. Parking is available at the cemetery’s visitors center.
