Obituary of Dorothy S. Stepp

Dorothy S. Stepp, 73, passed away at her home in Springfield, VA on January 23, 2013. A time of remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 9, from 1pm-3pm at Advent Funeral Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22046. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Caroline County, PO Box 75, Ruther Glen, VA 22546, who placed Dottie’s beloved Co Co and Gi Gi into a loving home. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Stepp, Dorothy (Dottie) S. Was born on July 6th 1939 in Harrisonburg, VA. From an early age Dottie showed a great love for her country and a willingness to serve. She was a graduate of Broadway High School. After which she received a scholarship to Strayer College. Upon Graduation she was employed by the United States Coast Guard, while there she met and married her husband Arthur who preceded her in death. After retirement Dottie became involved in community and crime prevention endeavors in Arlington Va. In the Early 80’s She was instrumental in putting into place one of the first neighborhood watches for Arlington in her neighborhood. But that was not enough for Dottie; she was one of the founding members and served as the president of the Citizen’s Crime Prevention Council of Arlington. This allowed a more organized voice for citizens in community matters and policing in Arlington. She spearheaded the starting of Arlington County Crime Solvers. She put in place the Save our Seniors program though the Arlington County Sheriff’s office and went on to volunteer with Alexandria City Police in crime prevention. Dottie worked to start the Citizens Police Academy, a program that gave citizens that qualified for entry an education of the duties required in policing. Dottie was a member of the NVCPA and VCPA as well as many other groups and associations. Her awards are too numerous to name. Her dedication to Crime prevention Spanned over 30 years. Needless to say this dedication, Stick to it attitude, political savviness and wit will surely be missed. A job well done, Rest well friend
