Obituary of Gloria J. Pires

Gloria Jean Teller Pires, 64, a 37-year resident of Manassas, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services-Fair Oaks in Fairfax, Va., following a protracted battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Pires (pronounced “Pierce”) was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Joe and Eleanor Louise Adams, both of Reno, Nev. Mrs. Pires was a homemaker and, with her late husband Joseph Manuel Pires, lived in such cities as Redwood City, Calif.; Alfaiao, Portugal; Sacramento, Calif.; Herndon, Va.; Leesburg, Va.; and Manassas, Va. An avid fiction reader and celebrated cook, Mrs. Pires was a fan of television game shows and daytime dramas. With her late husband and children, she enjoyed local and regional tourism and exploring such vistas as the West Virginia mountains and the beaches of Ocean City, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Joseph Manuel Pires of Santa Comba de Rossas, Portugal. Survivors include four children, Gloria Maria Teller of Stockbridge, Ga.; Ana Maria Pires of Manassas, Va.; Joe Grumman Pires of Manassas, Va.; and Jacqueline Onassis Chapman of Fredericksburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Potter of Forest Park, Ga.; and Brandon Lee Potter of Stockbridge, Ga.; and close family friend, Robert Sudduth of Manassas, Va. A memorial service in her honor will be hosted at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, by ManorCare Health Services-Fair Oaks, 12475 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy., in Fairfax, Va.
