Margaret was my colleague at Quality Travel for 18 years. She was an amazing lady who would regale us with wonderful stories of her fascinating past. Our lunchtime chats would include tales of the President of Liberia, thief’s hands chopped off in Saudi Arabia or stopping in Paris to shop on her way home from some exotic location. It was a glimpse into a world usually encountered on the pages of a novel. Margaret was a unique lady who never gave up her love of gossip. Despite a 30 year difference in our ages, she was the one who knew the most about the latest Hollywood scandal or the name of a disgraced political star. Margaret always worried that she would “lose her marbles” and would spend her last days without dignity. The last time Margaret came into the office was just two weeks prior to her death. We had no idea she was so ill. As always, her hair color was that perfect shade of red, every hair was in place and most importantly she definitely had her marbles. I shall miss that lady.

Dear Renee, I am president of the Greater McLean Republican Women’s Club, where your mother was a long standing member. We are a club of over 200 women and were shocked and saddened to learn today of Margaret’s passing on February 12. Do you plan to place a death notice in paper closer to the tie of the Memorial Service that is being held for her at Goodwin House? We have members who were very close to your mom, who have been leaving messages on her phone. One member regularly took your mom out to dinner and the movies. She was just at our club luncheon last month. We are most devastated and would appreciate any communication as to what happened! You should know that Margaret was loved by many members of our club. We will miss her dearly. You can reach me at [email protected]. Sincerely, Anne Gruner
