Obituary of Kay Haley Carr

Kay Haley Carr, 75, of Falls Church, VA, passed peacefully on March 6, 2013 following a brave battle with cancer. Kay was born on June 21, 1937, in Chattanooga, TN. She attended Bright School and Girls Preparatory School before moving with her family to Columbus, MS. After graduating from Lee High School in 1955, she attended the University of Mississippi, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree. She began her teaching career in Atlanta and New Orleans, specializing in Latin. After raising a family in Gulfport, MS, she returned to teaching, first at Bayou View Junior High School and later at Columbus High School. She finished her career in Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools, retiring in 2009. Throughout her life, Kay was instrumental in guiding many people through her selflessness and grace. Kay is survived by her two sons, William J. Carr, III, and his wife, Suzannah, of Falls Church, VA, and James T. Carr of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Margie and Suzanne, and brother, Fred; and four grandchildren, Billy, Janie, Charlotte and Andrew. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA, at 4pm on Saturday, March 9th. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
