Obituary of Jean H. Walker

Jean Holland Walker Passed on March 8, 2013 Jean Holland Walker, 76, of Vienna, VA, died on March 8, 2013, following a brief fight with cancer. Jean was born on July 27, 1936, in Staunton, Virginia. At the age of ten, she moved with her mother, Cossie Powell, to Glen Burnie, Maryland. Jean attended Glen Burnie High School where she excelled in sports, playing varsity field hockey, volleyball, and softball. After graduating, Jean entered the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning the Good Conduct medal. Following her service, she worked as a supervisor for the Federal Food and Drug Administration until she retired. Jean loved art, music, nature and watching classic TV sitcoms. Jean is survived by her partner of 40 years, Ms. Janet Kulick, her brothers Ashby and Ron Shanks, her niece Christine Shanks, her aunt Dessie Powell, other aunts and cousins, and her friend since childhood, Janice Davis Frederick. A memorial service will be held at the Advent Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA, at 3 PM on Sunday, March 24th.
