Obituary of Edmund J. Stange

Edmund Joseph Stange, a retired Ford Motor Company executive, passed away peacefully at Capital Caring on March 8, 2013. Born on January 23, 1926 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Herbert and Adelephine Mary Stange, Ed was the only son among their three children. He earned a BS and MA from St. Bonaventure University in New York before serving as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon returning to civilian life, Ed took a position with Ford on September 1, 1953. He retired 30 years later as the Regional Administrative Manager for the Lincoln Mercury Division. In retirement, however, he rested little, for he embarked on a second career with his own company. EJS Associates coordinated public relations and advertising programs, “Ride and Drives” and other logistics for Ford Motor Company for over 20 years. A deeply committed Roman Catholic, Mr. Stange was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Ed became the beloved husband and best friend of Evelyn Jordan Stange on April 10, 1965. He was the devoted father of Marianne Thrift, Joseph Stange, Patricia Jennings, James Stange, Louise McKinley, and Daniel Stange. Mr. Stange also dearly loved and was uncle to his sister, Mary’s, children: Thomas Straub, Richard Straub, Mary Ferrell and the late Michael Straub. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary and Bernadette, and is survived by 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and a multitude of friends. His previous marriage to the late Geraldine Spalding ended in divorce. Friends received 2:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 13 at Advent Funeral Services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Thursday, March 14 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5121 Woodland Way, Annandale, VA 22003. Interment Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Caring or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Ed was a kind, gentle soul with an infectious laugh and a great love of life. He will be missed by many.
