Obituary of Annagrace Jorjorian Samaan

Dr. Annagrace (Anne) Jorjorian Samaan, 91 years “young” of Alexandria, VA died on April 4, 2013 at Goodwin House Retirement Community. Her life was filled with many exciting roles around the world: a missionary in Costa Rica, wife to Dr. Sadek H. Samaan, and professor at American University, in Cairo Egypt for 11 years, founder of a kindergarten in Nigeria and psychologist the US. For more than 40 years Anne was a practicing clinical psychologist and served on the faculty of seven universities in several countries. Self described as a “global citizen”, others have ascribed the following attributes to Anne: assertive, vibrant, full of creative energy, tenacious, persevering and life-long learner. In addition to all of these, Anne was a devoted wife to Dr. Sadek H. Samaan who lived with Alzheimer’s for twenty years. She is survived by her youngest sister, Mary Louise Kniffen (Florida), 2 daughters, Janette S. Samaan and Laurette Bennhold-Samaan, granddaughter Catalina Bennhold-Samaan, son-in-law G. Michael Keltos (Arlington VA) as well as extended family around the world. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2013 in the Memorial Chapel, Goodwin House Alexandria, 4800 Fillmore Avenue, Alexandria VA 22311. Reception following in the Living Room. Interment of ashes will be Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 2pm St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, Wilmette IL.Messages to the family may be placed on the Advent Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio University Foundation, The Drs. Sadek and Anne Samaan Memorial Fund for International Understanding.
