Obituary of Pamela Carter Hart

Pamela Carter Hart 11/3/1941-4/29/2013 Pamela C. Hart was born in Henderson, North Carolina, to D.K and Ossye Carter. It was discovered at an early age that she had a profound talent for music. She studied piano from the age of 6, and during junior and senior high school, was the accompanist for a dancing class, while playing oboe in the Henderson High School concert band, and trombone in the marching band. She studied music and played first chair oboe in summer classes at East Carolina College. Immediately after high school, Pam married her husband of almost 53 years. While raising 3 sons, she was the organist at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bowie, MD, and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Springfield, VA, which position she held for almost 20 years. It was said that no one slept in church when Pam was at the organ – her music was up-tempo and her music selection was never boring. Pam’s music career was cut short in 2001 by an automobile accident that prevented her from sitting on the bench and using the footpedals that are necessary for a professional organist. She used her time to serve others as a member of Manassas Therapy Dogs. She and her golden retriever Jacoby brought smiles to persons in hospitals and nursing homes in Prince William County. In December 2011 Pam suffered a mild stroke while undergoing a heart procedure. The following summer she was diagnosed with cancer, which caused her death on 29 April 2013. She died at home, surrounded by the love of her family and the peace that comes from a life spent in caring for, and about, others. Pam is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Frank T. (Pete) Hart II, her three sons, Frank T. (Chip) Hart III of Potomac Falls, VA, Gregory K. Hart of Culpeper, VA, Cory C. Hart of Nokesville, VA, a brother , David M. (Mike) Carter of Franklin, NC, 7 grandchildren that will miss Grammie Pam immensely, her three Golden Retrievers and one little black stray dog that was so lucky to find Featherbed Lane. Services will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Springfield. VA at 11:00 on 2 May 2013. Interment will occur at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas at 11:00 on 3 May 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Music Program at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
