Obituary of Irene M. Sorrough

IRENE M. SORROUGH LTC (Ret.), U.S. Army Died at Capital Caring Hospice on May 22, 2013. Colonel Sorrough was among the first officers commissioned in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II. After a 26-year Army career, she retired in 1968 as chief of personnel, U.S. Army Engineer School, Ft. Belvoir. Viewing Sunday, May 26 from 2:00 – 5:00pm at Advent Funeral Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22046. Services will be held at Ft. Myer’s Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 2:45pm. Please arrive by 2:15pm. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. Reception immediately following burial at the Fort Myer Officers Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Army Women’s Museum Association, P.O. Box 1027, Prince George, VA 23875; or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
