I was sitting here in my home today reflecting on the world the environment and I was curious if Jerry was still alive. I'm sorry he is no longer with us, but a part of him is a part of me since he was my mentor back in Scarsdale where I met Jerry at the Lutheran Church on Boulevard. I followed Jerry to Washington DC to work for EPA and the President's Council on Environmental Quality, may it rest in peace. Based on Jerry's advice I did take a job in the private sector working on waste to energy plants at an engineering firm. When my youngest daughter hit 7th grade I realized I needed to be home when she was home so I became a biology and Earth science middle school teacher. I am now retired and raising my granddaughter. I keep my fingers in environmental work by being a girl scout leader. Jerry helped shaped my life and I'm sorry we lost touch over the years. He was a great man.

Thank you very much Randi, for sharing your memories and condolences. He would be very happy to know that you followed a career that made a difference in the world and you are passing on your passion to your daughter and grand daughter. If you'd like to contact me via LinkedIn, I would be happy to share two videos I made about his life. https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristenbarney/

I have very good memories of Jerry. I joined the Millennium Institute soon after he left the Presidency of the Institute. On the other hand, I met him at the office several times. He was the first one to validate my work on the energy transition in the USA back in 2005, and we had a few long conversations about the model and the interpretation of its results. I recall that he also helped me by correcting my pronunciation a few times, in light of future presentations I would give about the model - we had a good laugh about the way I was pronouncing "enhance", this I recall well! We then stayed in touch for his work with OurTask, where I saw a very different side of him: still motivated to have an impact, but doing so with the youth. He did visionary work, laid the ground for my career using System Dynamics at MI. He and a few other people had a massive impact on my professional life. Most of them are connected to Jerry and the work at MI.

I first met Jerry through his leadership of Our Task. He was passionate about sustainability and saw the potential for youth leadership. I think it says a lot about Jerry's character that he put so much of himself into this and many other endeavors when he didn't have to.

To Jerry's loved ones:
Jerry's work will be his legacy that is going to live on in different forms and shapes. Life is all about connection and wholeness rather than division and partialness. All of us are a reflection of the greater whole and the greater whole is reflected within us.
Jerry's work has all been about collaboration, the basic operating principle that keeps us going. Jerry and I had only met once at the 25th Balaton Group annual meeting in September 2006. However, I remember very well our conversation about his work, especially "Our Task" in the context of my past role as a member of the Club of Rome’s youth group, "think tank 30." We had exchanged views on youth engagement.
A lot has happened since then, especially as far as youth movements are concerned. Fridays for Future have pushed those in power to reflect on the status quo and their own choices - and actions. More people are waking up. And it is this growing kind of consciousness that Jerry contributed to. Sometimes, the building blocks may not be recognizable anymore later on, but they are the foundation that everything else has been built on.
Jerry's life’s work is also reflected in each one of us that he has touched – the notion of wholeness that he has contributed to. And this is going to live on.

I have nothing but good memories and gratefulness for having crossed paths and walking together with Jerry a few times.
From the time we met at the Systems Research Institute in Pune in 1986, he was an inspiration through his commitment to making a better world. I have never ceased to admire his humility, clarity, vision, inclusiveness and commitment.
I recall his sharing the motivation and experiences of Globus 2000, and then a few years later about the 21st Century Studies, and the Millennium Institute, the pledge of world religious leaders, and then his youth network at Our Task. He shaped ideas that will last for centuries. He seeded institutions and mentored people who will continue to expand his vision. He made such an amazing connect between the models of the head to the models of the heart!
I wish I could have had the opportunity to work together with him on some of the projects he initiated. His dreaming big, global, and long term has really left a deep impression on my own visions for our planet. I wish I could have learnt more from him. I never met his family, but they all must be wonderful people, especially all those he left behind. I stand with them to celebrate Jerry, and their love for him and our planet.
Jerry will continue to inspire me, and a million others whose lives you touched, for all our lives. Do watch over us from wherever you are, Jerry. Guide us so we may stay true to making the planet a better place and that we may spend our time on earth at least half as well as you have.
Jerry, you have embarked on yet a longer term journey to shape not just the planet but our universe. I wish you will find peace, joy, and love in eternity.
