We are sad to announce the passing of Maria Violeta Cuevas Ruiz, best known to her family as Viole, of Annandale, VA. She passed surrounded by her family on May 26th following a sudden, intense battle with cancer.

She is survived by her daughters and their spouses - Michelle Cuevas Mancilla and Elton Mancilla, Vanessa Cuevas and Jonathan Mancilla; her beloved six grandchildren-Emma Mancilla, Katya Mancilla, Alexa Mancilla, Anika Mancilla, Tatiana Mancilla, and Victor Mancilla; her partner Douglas Lee; her sisters Elizabeth Velasquez, Miriam Ruiz-Duque and Genoveva Ruiz-Navas as well as her extended family who she loved above everything in the world.

She worked for Arlington County for over 28 years and was one of the first women inspectors to be certified in Building, Electric, Plumbing and Mechanical for the Residential Generalist Program in the state of Virginia. She also ran the Backflow Inspection Program prior to retiring following her first battle with cancer in 2002.
