Obituary of Mohammad Reza Badii

Mohammad Reza Badii, 93, passed away on Sunday April 23, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Tehran, Iran in 1930, where he grew up with his 11 brothers and sisters who he loved and recalled fondly till his last days. He attended Tehran University and Abadan Institute of Technology and obtained a masters in Chemical engineering, leading him on the path to work in the oil industry. His last position was as CEO of an oil tanker company.

He met his wife, Nahid in 1952, they married soon after and moved to Abadan, Iran. They lived in Abadan for more than 15 years and their three children were born there. They built a home and a life full of friends and celebrations that was always welcoming to visitors.

In 1977, his work took him to London, England where he remained after the Iranian Revolution in 1979. He settled in northern Virginia 17 years later, where he built a new life close to his children. In  order to provide for his family and ensure the best life possible in this new land, he opened up a GNC store with his daughter in Washington DC where he worked for 10 years.

Reza’s life was filled with change, some within his control and much out of his control, that gave him a unique wisdom on the tumultuousness of life. Throughout it all, he valued education and hard work, advising his children and grandchildren to prepare for life’s ups and downs as best they could and to “leave the rest to chance.” He never missed an opportunity to express gratitude for the good fortune he had nor for celebrating love and importance of family. He was a scholar, a philosopher, a realist, a strong family figure, and a wonderful friend.  

He is survived by his wife, Nahid, his children, Roshanak, Mastaneh, and Ali Reza, his son in law Farrokh, his grandchildren Roshan, Arman, Yara, and Ariana, his grandson in law Matthew and his great granddaughters Misha and Lily, as well as beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends. 

The family will gather at his residence on Saturday, May 13th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in order to celebrate his life and welcome others to stop by to share memories and cherish the special place Reza will always have in our hearts.
