Obituary of Elizabeth G. Olarinde
Elizabeth Gbonjubola was born on February 10, 1944, in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. She was the daughter of the late Chief David Aiyedun and Alice Alake Aiyedun. Elizabeth lived in Ibadan, Oyo State most of her teenage and young adult life. Elizabeth married Emmanuel A. Olarinde on December 19, 1970, and, within three years, joined her husband in the United States in August of 1973.
Elizabeth was a beloved and devout member of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia for twenty-five years, and, in recent years, was an active member of Word of Life International Church. In all these years, Elizabeth regularly donated food to the church food banks and volunteered to help when needed.
Elizabeth graduated from Adeoyo Hospital Nursing school in Eleyele, Ibadan in 1969. Elizabeth graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from George Mason University in 1991. As a licensed Registered Nurse, she worked for fifteen years at Columbia Hospital for Women, another five years at George Washington University Hospital, and spent the last five years of her nursing career at Holy Cross Hospital, where she was promoted and served meritoriously as the Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager, an honor that she richly deserved.
Her years of service, caring for communities in need were matched by the care she gave to her patients. Above all her passion was caring for her children and grandchildren, all of whom she was integral to raising. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoyed exercise, travel, doing puzzles, cooking, reading history, and caring for her plants and flowers.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Adegboyega Aiyedun and her sisters Aduke Akinade and Bolanle Sanusi. .
