Obituary of Janet Cherry Spielmann

Spielmann, Janet Cherry, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died at age 93 on October 8 in Ashburn, Virginia.  Born Janet Wilson Cherry on March 14, 1929 in Maspeth, New York to Ethel Harriet Wilson Cherry and Frank Everson Cherry, Janet was a 1949 graduate of Barnard College and was awarded a Master of Arts degree by Columbia University/Union Theological Seminary in 1953.  At the time of her retirement in 1992 she was Senior Associate Director of Admissions at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.   Predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Richard Morisse Spielmann, Th.D.  Survived by their daughter Katherine Spielmann (William Edwards) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Christopher (Jeanna) of Vienna, Virginia; and granddaughter Emily Edwards (Jacob Jacob) of Atlanta, Georgia.  Janet enjoyed traveling, reading, and until recent years, playing golf.  She was a resident of Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Virginia.  The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Comforter, 543 Beulah Road NE, Vienna, Virginia on October 12 at 11 am.  Burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Maspeth, New York on October 14.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Barnard College, 3009 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10027; The Church of the Holy Comforter, 543 Beulah Road, NE, Vienna, Virginia 22180; or St. David’s Church, 43600 Russell Branch Parkway, Ashburn, VA 20147.
