Kevin Gaghan

Obituary of Kevin Gaghan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Paul Gaghan, who died peacefully at home on April 13, 2022. Kevin was born on April 7, 1956, the son of James and Alma (Llorente) Gaghan and the third generation of the Gaghan family to be born in Washington, D.C. He grew up in the Alexandria/Mount Vernon area, attending St. Louis Catholic School and Bishop Ireton High School. He attended East Carolina University and George Mason University before starting his HVAC career at Boland Services, where he worked for 14 years. In 1996, following in the entrepreneurial footsteps of his great grandfather, grandfather and father, Kevin started his own mechanical contracting firm, Gaghan Mechanical, Inc., serving the Washington, D.C., metro area.

He was a beloved husband, proud and devoted father, loving brother, doting uncle and great uncle, cherished, loyal and lifelong friend, generous supporter of the local community and charitable organizations, and trusted and admired business owner. Family, Faith, Friends, Community and Charity formed the foundation of Kevin’s life, and he lived his life focused on giving back by volunteering his time and talents and providing financial support to help others in need. He had a fun-loving, energetic, larger-than-life personality that carried over into every aspect of his life. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends. Two of his favorite events were hosting his annual crab feast each August and his blockbuster fireworks show on the 4th of July. Kevin’s many interests included spending time on the Potomac River in his boat, attending Washington Nationals baseball games, traveling with his family (especially the annual treks to Disneyworld and Myrtle Beach), playing pickup basketball, assisting with Bishop Ireton’s wrestling team, reading, and eating Maryland crabs and North Carolina barbecue.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 27 years Linda Gaghan, his two sons Adam Gaghan and Casey Gaghan, his siblings Michael Gaghan, James Gaghan (Judy), Timothy Gaghan (Mary Mateer), Michele “Susie” Schmitt (Monti), and Valerie Gaghan, 15 nieces and nephews and 19 grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his youngest brother T.J. Gaghan.
