Obituary of Betty Jean Utt

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38-39

Betty Jean Utt

Betty Jean Utt, 96, a woman of great faith, devoted to God, her family and country died on April 7, 2022 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Betty was born on April 29, 1925 in Wyco, WV and moved to Beckley, WV when she was 2 years old.  After graduating from high school, Betty attended Beckley Business College.  Upon completion she accepted a secretarial position with the Department of the Navy in Washington DC.

She met her future husband, Howard Utt, at a roller skating rink in Foggy Bottom, DC.  They married November 11, 1948 and lovingly shared 55 years of marriage before Howard passed on October 11, 2003.

Betty and Howard lived in Falls Church, VA since 1954.  They had one daughter, Sharon, and Betty became a fulltime homemaker.  She enjoyed her home and you could hear her “whistling while she worked”.

She always said, “I LOVE LIFE” and fit in as much as she could. Her interests included gardening, oil painting, reading and listening to music.  She volunteered through the years with various organizations, including the local swim team and Girl Scouts.  She enjoyed her church, Sunday School and the Ladies’ Bible Study. In 1987 she became grandmother to Michael Holmes.  He was the light of her life.  Betty touched many lives in her almost 97 years on this earth.

Survivors include her daughter Sharon Holmes, and son-in-law, Ken, of Fairfax, VA and grandson Michael Holmes of Vienna, VA.  Also, her sister, Margaret Ernestine Angstadt, and brother-in-law, Jerry, of Haysville, KS.  Additionally, she leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews.
