Obituary of Bernardine C. Stacharowski

Bernardine “Bernie” Stacharowski died peacefully on Feb 20, 2022 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA after suffering from pneumonia. She was 90 years old. 
Born in Baltimore, MD on June 1, 1931 to parents Adam and Eva Wenerski, she had two sisters, Theresa and Kathleen (Kathy). She met her lifelong love, Joseph (Joe), at a church fair and they were married in 1949. They lived most of their lives in Dundalk, MD where they raised four children, Joseph (Joe), Jacqueline (Jackie), James (Jamie), and Joyce. Bernie was a devout catholic and relied heavily on her faith to cope with the loss of Jamie when he was a child.
Bernie and Joe retired to the beach community of Surfside Beach, SC where they lived together until Joe’s passing in 2004. Bernie stayed in Surfside Beach where she continued to attend church daily and enjoyed knitting, gardening, and being near the ocean and in close proximity to her oldest daughter, Jackie. After Jackie passed away in 2018, Bernie lived for a while longer in Surfside Beach before moving to Falls Church, VA to be closer to her family.
Bernie was a proud and loving grandmother to Eric Stacharowski and Jenna Christian and to Benjamin and Avery Gendell and a Great Grandmother to Zachary, Audrey, Leah, and Adam.
Bernie is survived by her son Joe and his wife Christine of Baltimore, MD and her daughter Joyce Gendell and her husband Martin of Falls Church, VA. Bernie will be missed by all of her family and friends but they take comfort in the fact that she is with God and reunited with her beloved Joseph, Jackie and Jamie.
