Mona Corboy West

Obituary of Mona Corboy West

Our beloved mother died peacefully on December 1, 2021, after 91 inspirational years on this earth. In her last week, she shared Thanksgiving with her family and attended a National Symphony performance at the Kennedy Center, a place she loved, before a brief escalation of chronic illness. Born in Chicago in 1930, she was the daughter of William J. Corboy and Eileen Dunne Corboy and the granddaughter of Edward F. Dunne, the former mayor of Chicago and former Governor of Illinois. She graduated from Barat College and received her Master’s degree in Education at Northwestern University. She contributed to her community in many ways, including working at the Rockefeller Foundation, founding the Richmond Montessori School in Virginia, and actively volunteering with adult literacy programs. Her many passions included opera, travel, and her faith. She was devoted to her husband and always there to support her extended family and community. Her engaging style, vivacious smile, grace, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her children Eileen, Mona, and Stuart, and five grandchildren Sara, Sophie, Susan, Claire, and Juliet. Her first son, David, and her beloved husband of 55 years, Peter, predeceased her.

A funeral mass will be held on December 4 at noon at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Falls Church, Virginia, with a celebratory gathering immediately following at the home of her daughter.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in her name to the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia.
