Today, 2/21/24 why did I have to see this here.?? Such a kind woman my "Social Getontology" Professor. I was talking about you not to long ago. I felt your spirit in those times in class. I believe you knew Jesus. Thank you for those times. You loved Elders for sure.
Just so sorry; I had to see on this platform here. Thank you, for what you did.

Dr. B. Hawkins, you were so important to the development of my career. I shall never forget you advocating for us when our scholarships were impacted you ran to Mr. Blackwell and Dr. Chunn to ensure that we could AND would be able to graduate…you were a lady, a professional and a genuine advocator. I know God welcomed you home…the world and Howard has no idea how invaluable you were to us and me.
I never ever forget the countless lessons and modeling you gave…God has blessed you and heaven is a perfect place with you there…my role model forever…JaVita Tg. Banks

Dr. Brin Hawkins was admired by many at the Howard Unviersity School of Social Work. She was a spirit that stayed with each of us who knew her. Dr. Hawkins (Brin) was a gem and her inspiration is long lasting. I am proud to count myself as one of her mentees. I cherished the time we spent together and the support that she gave me during my tenure as associate dean and dean of the Howard Unviersity School of Social Work. I have posted a photograph with her at the celebration of the 80th anniversary of social work eduation at Howard University.

My condolences to the family. Brin was truly wonderful. She was indeed wonderful to me, and guided me as I entered the School of Social Work from another department. She was years ahead of her time, and I remember her telling our students: "nothing limits you." I would see her at jazz and blues venues in the area, and we both chuckled that we enjoyed the same entertainment. She guided the School through several accreditations, she had a clear vision of macro, and she was quite well respected as a professional leader. Brin, so many people miss you, and we appreciate the work that you did.

As Dr. Hawkins served as my academic advisor, she became a light in the dark. Here guidance was filtered with human regard. After graduation she would still speak in the same manner upon a visit. Her spark will be forever. She will be missed.

Brin, I loved your exuberance which you always shared with all of us. I met you in 1961 when we pledged Delta together. Throughout the ensuing years you were always upbeat, warm and sincere in your interactions with me. Rest peacefully and know that you shined a bright light on the world.

We have been buddies since Junior High School, sharing fun and laughter and our families. She always knew how to bring a group together for parties, chats, anything.Being a close neighbor, this was easy through Junior High, High school, even HU. Pledging Delta Sigma Theta with her brought even more to the sisterhood we shared. A true friend, who gave support without judgement, she always came through in a crisis, knowing what to say or do.She will be missed dearly. Rest in Peace.

Condolences to Dr. Hawkins' family and the family of friends who loved and cared for her. Dr. Hawkins was a wonderful human being! She was kind, generous, slow to anger and quick to set things right. I came to know her as a member of the faculty of the School of Social Work at Howard University. She was very supportive of me as a new faculty member and encouraging as I navigated my path in academia. When in retirement she moved to Springvale Terrace, I got to know her more as a friend. My church, Episcopal Church of the Ascension, provided entertainment one Sunday a month for the residents - that was before the pandemic. Brin loved these programs and was always on the front row with the brightest smile and joyous participation when the audience was engaged. Brin was like a ray of sunshine and I will miss her. I am thankful we shared a part of each other's life journey.
Rest in peace in your heavenly home.
