Timothy Raynes

Obituary of Timothy Lee Raynes

Timothy Lee Raynes (“Tim”) of Greenbelt, Maryland  passed away on March 26, 2021 after a courageous battle with a long illness.  Tim was born on October 30, 1955 in Harrisonburg, Virginia,  the fourth child of Aubrey Calvin (“Cal”) Raynes (deceased) and Janet Marie McCallister Raynes, loving and proud father to Julie Marie Lockwood (Kevin) and very proud grandfather to Tucker and Grace Lockwood.  He is survived by his siblings, Rebecca Lynn Raynes, Gregory Calvin Raynes/Diane, and Henry Clay Raynes/Nery and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

After high school, Tim enlisted in the United States Army.  He was very proud of his service to our country from 1974 to 1977 and was stationed at Scofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii.  He was awarded several medals for his infantry leadership and expert marksmanship skills and maintained friendships with his fellow soldiers through the years and affiliations with the American Legion and VFW.

After service in the Army, Tim graduated and achieved certification from the Computer Learning Center and worked as a computer operator/programmer for several healthcare companies and for the Prince George’s County Government.  In 1991, he joined his sister in managing and operating a family-owned health club in Adams Morgan, Washington, DC until his illness.

Tim was a vivacious, loving and generous person who encouraged many to never ever give up.  He was passionate about his faith, family,  friends and country.  The most precious to him was the time he spent with his daughter Julie who was the love of his life.  He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, swimming, trips to the mountains and ocean and vintage cars. He was an avid movie fan, and enjoyed music and occasionally played the drums.  He was a quintessential handyman who could fix anything giving his projects the “T.R. Special.”    His hobbies included maintaining his 1963 Chevy, 1979 Corvette,  landscaping, dancing and cooking.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
