Maria Bacares

Obituary of Maria Bacares

Mrs. Marina Bacares, 88, peacefully passed away on April 7, 2020.  She was born in Ibague, Colombia.  She traveled around Europe and studied in Spain before she married the love of her life, Rafael Bacares, in 1963 in Bogota, Colombia.  The couple moved to New York City in the mid-1960’s, and they bought a house in Elmhurst, Queens. They lived in Elmhurst, while raising their two children, Rafael and Angela.  A loving mother and homemaker, Marina was a remarkable cook and enjoyed hosting meals for her family and friends.  She was also active in her church and always generous with the less fortunate.  She with her husband loved to travel around the world and spend their winters in Florida.  After her cancer operation in 2014, she slowed down but continued to bring joy to the people around her. For a time she and her husband lived with a niece in New York.  After her husband passed away, she stayed with her son and his family in Arlington, Virginia.  Though her family loved her, her friends, and those she helped throughout her life also loved Marina.  She will be greatly missed.  The legacy she leaves behind serves as an inspiration to us all to continue to strive to be the best we can be and to help others especially the less fortunate.

She is survived by her son Rafael Bacares Jr. and his spouse, Marcia Bacares of Virginia; her daughter Angela Bacares Lynch and her spouse Michael Lynch of London, England; and five grandchildren: Esme Lynch, Hannah Lynch, Rafael Henrique Bacares, Felipe Leonardo Bacares and Pietra Marina Catalina Bacares.  She is also survived by three sisters: Gloria Osorio, Pepita and Isabel Cifuentes and a Brother Emilio Cifuentes of Ibague, Colombia and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her and had her in their thoughts during her last years.  Rest in peace, Marina.
