Obituary of Dolores Butara Miller

Dolores “Dee” Butara Miller

June 10, 1940 - May 24, 2020

Dolores, “Dee”, was the first born of John and Mary (Mekine) Butara of Johnstown, PA.  Dee and her sister, Linda (Littleton) shared life together and were always each other’s support.  Mom moved to Washington, DC., for secretarial work with the Federal Government, then with Computer Sciences Corporation, and finally at Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School, where she retired after 20 years of service.

Mom and Dad, James J. Miller, Sr., of Johnstown, PA, were married on July 23, 1960.  Mom delighted in her family, including her children and her grandchildren; Terri (daughter) and Bill Potts of Falls Church, VA, and their children Rachel and Troy; Jim Jr., (son) and Lisa Miller of Richmond, VA, and their children Clayton, Abigail, and Camille; and Michelle (daughter) Miller and David Perry, of Ottawa, Ontario.  One of her greatest pleasures in life was being “Grammy.”  She was also beloved “Aunt Dee Dee” to many nieces and nephews, and their children.

Mom opened her heart and home to anyone she met, whether with a kind gesture, a listening ear, or a word of congratulations or encouragement.  We could not ask for a better role model for a life lived in service to others, and the importance of sharing gentleness, humility, and kindness.

Mom’s faith in Christ was paramount in her life.  She was a faithful parishioner and volunteer at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Falls Church for over 50 years, as well as a volunteer at A Women’s Choice (crisis pregnancy) Center, also in Falls Church.

Mom’s burial will be celebrated with immediate family.  Additional service and celebration will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to A Women’s Choice Center or Capital Caring Hospice.
